Martin successfully campaigned to prevent the disposal by Thames Water of lock keepers’ cottages along the Thames.

Martin was recently elected chair of a new All Party Parliamentary Group on Gurkhas’ Rights and is campaigning for the Gurkhas to be given the same settlement rights to live in the UK as other foreign nationals who have served in the British army.

Kennet Meadows is a vital ‘green wedge’ in the densely developed Borough of Reading, extending into West Berkshire. It is a vital space for the communities of Coley, Coley Park,Southcote and Calcot. Kennet Meadows has been treatened for the past 30 years by a series of development proposals.

Martin worked with his colleagues on Reading Borough Council in campaigning for substantial track improvements an new platform capacity at Reading Station that we approved in spring of 2007.

Martin backed the campaign started by Reading mum Liz Longhurst following the brutal murder of her daughter Jane. The law governing the downloading and viewing of violent pornographic material has been successfully changed as a result.
