Reading West MP and chair of the All Party Parliamentary Thames Group has helped launch The Thames Learning Group - a new initiative from education, environmental and heritage organisations along the River Thames, dedicated to helping local schools and adult learners maximise the benefit from the Thames.

Reading West MP and chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Angling hosted a meeting in Parliament to support the Angling Trust, the new body to represent all anglers in England, at a meeting of the APPG Angling in Westminster.

Following on from my post of yesterday, it looks like Commons Leader Harriet Harman has bottled it. In the Business Statement earlier today, she consistently refused to offer a concrete promise on a date for the Commons to vote on the recommendations of the Wright Committee on Reform of the House of Commons.

Members of the Wright Committee on Parliamentary Reform, myself included, have attacked “procedural manoeuvring” by the Government’s business managers and have publicly challenged the Prime Minister to demonstrate that he is serious about delivering the Parliamentary reform promised in his Constitutional Statement on 10th June last year

Labour MPs Martin Salter and Graham Allen, both members of the Wright Committee on Parliamentary Reform have attacked “procedural manoeuvring” by the Government’s business managers and have publicly challenged the Prime Minister to demonstrate that he is serious about delivering the Parliamentary reform promised in his Constitutional Statement on 10th June last year and reiterated in Tuesday’s speech to the IPPR.

There were some red faces and much uncomfortable twitching amongst the Tory health team in the Commons last week. Incredibly, in two Opposition Day debates on Health, not a speech was made by Andrew Lansley, the Shadow Health Secretary.

On Sunday 21st March Martin Salter, Labour MP for Reading West and Anneliese Dodds, Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Reading East, will be running in the Reading Half Marathon event in aid of the Berkshire Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre. With two other team members, the Labour Party foursome will each be running a three mile leg of the Corporate Relay Challenge under the name of ‘Martin’s Midnight Runners’. The annual event totals approximately 80 teams from the South East region and will take place at the Madejski Stadium.
