Salter Visits the Up and Coming Student Council at Downsway
Martin Salter, Labour MP for Reading West, visited Downsway Primary School in Tilehurst on Friday 24th April at the invitation of the School’s Council - a new initiative created to improve student input and discussion.
The pupils asked many questions of Martin connected with his role and responsibilities as the local Member of Parliament and the way in which local Councils are run. During the discussion, Mr Salter offered the children suggestions that would help to enhance their role within the school and the way in which they conduct their meetings. Mr Salter’s visit was the latest in a number of trips to local schools by the MP.
Following the meeting, Mr Salter said:-
“The invitation to address the student-led School Council at Downsway was one I was delighted to accept. I very much enjoyed answering questions about my role as the MP for Reading West, and it was great to give the kids a few pointers on how to structure their meetings in the future. I have to say the level of discussion was excellent even if it did stray into football and fishing - not strictly the core business of a school council!”
