Salter Marks World Glaucoma Day
Reading West MP Martin Salter marked World Glaucoma Day by joining Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) and researchers from Moorfield’s Eye Hospital at a meeting in Parliament to discuss new technology that is being developed to improve sight-saving tests for glaucoma.
Martin Salter said:-
“Glaucoma can be picked up by a simple eye test and, if it’s caught early enough, sight loss can be prevented. However, glaucoma simply doesn’t have any symptoms in the early stages and it’s often detected too late.”
He added:-
“Around 800 people in Reading West suffer from glaucoma, but half of them will not even be aware that they are at risk of losing their sight. I commend the work of the RNIB and the Moorfield Eye hospital in raising awareness of this important issue and urge people who think they may be at risk of developing glaucoma to get tested as soon as possible.”
