Reading School of Health And Social Care
Reading West MP Martin Salter has today (11 Dec 08) written to Schools Secretary Ed Balls to ask him to intervene to stop the proposed closure of the School of Health and Social Care at Reading University.
Commenting on the proposed closure, Martin Salter said:
“I find it ludicrous that in the aftermath of the Baby P case, Reading University is considering closing the School which provides excellent and much-needed training for those involved in social care and child protection. At a time when the need for highly qualified professions is demonstrated so starkly by the horrific nature of the recent tragedy, it beggars belief that the School, which is important not just to Reading but the country as a whole, is under threat of closure. I hope that Schools Minister Ed Balls will take urgent action to ensure that it stays open.”
