Martin Salter - working hard for Reading West

Salter Congratulates Reading Students

Reading West MP Martin Salter is planning to give a cold shoulder to the critics who will inevitably seek to dirty the achievements of young people when tomorrow’s GCSE results are published.

Mr Salter will be attending the GCSE Results Day in Prospect Park organised by West Reading Youth Workers, to celebrate the hard work and achievements of Reading’s school kids. This week Eshe Nelson, former member of the Reading Youth Parliament, steamed into the critics saying:

“The coverage of young people in national media is so often negative it can give the impression that we are all delinquents. It’s disappointing to hear something so low from the powerful adults, whose responsibilities should encourage them to act rationally. What is wrong with the pass rate increasing and more and more young people doing well? I just wish everyone would stop and give us the recognition we deserve.”

Martin Salter said:

“I am quite deliberately taking time out to attend the GCSE Results Day and to personally congratulate Reading’s youngsters on their GCSE achievements. I get sick and tired of listening to the whinging cynics who have nothing better to do than run down our schools and be-little the hard work of school students. GCSE results are the culmination of years of hard work by students and their teachers. We should be encouraging our young people not de-motivating.”
